vintage-french-black-stoneware-pot-with-two-handles
Vintage French Black Stoneware Pot with Two Handles

A vintage French stoneware pot with a deep black exterior, two loop handles and a rolled rim, glazed inside in a glossy amber brown. A fine incised line circles the shoulder, and the black surface has worn back in places to the warm clay beneath, giving it a soft, timeworn character. It looks wonderful on an open shelf or kitchen counter, filled with wooden spoons, or holding a loose bunch of dried flowers or branches.

Details

Origin: France

Material: Stoneware

Dimensions: 12" W (handle to handle) x 8" H; 8" diameter at the mouth

Color / Finish: Matte black exterior, worn in places to the warm brown clay; glossy amber-brown glazed interior

Handles: Two loop handles

Condition: Vintage condition with age-appropriate wear, including several cracks on the bottom (some branching, with slightly open edges where they meet) and a long hairline line across one side of the bottom, worn patches on the black exterior where the clay shows through (most noticeably at the front and around the lower body), scattered pitting, scratches and small surface marks, small chips and rough spots along the rim, a small white mark below the rim, and light wear to the interior glaze, including a small pale mark on the inside wall near the rim.
