antique-cornish-pine-hutch-with-glass-doors
Antique Cornish Pine Hutch with Glass Doors

An antique Cornish pine dresser, the classic English farmhouse piece for displaying china and keeping linens close at hand. A deep, flared cornice crowns a pair of glazed doors, each with curved glazing bars arching across the top corners and rippled glass in front of a pine board back with shelves. Below, two drawers sit over a pair of paneled doors with arched top corners, all with white ceramic knobs, beneath a thick top with a softly rounded front edge. Turned roundels and long, round-ended moldings trim the stiles, and the whole piece stands on turned bun feet, mellowed to a warm honey tone.

Details

Origin: Cornwall, England

Material: Pine

Dimensions: 51" W x 20" D x 75" H

Color / Finish: Warm honey-toned pine with a natural, mellowed patina

Storage: Upper cabinet with two glazed doors and shelves; base with two drawers over a two-door cupboard

Hardware: White ceramic knobs; keyhole in the lower right door

Decorative Details: Curved glazing bars across the top corners of the glass doors; turned roundels and round-ended moldings on the stiles; door panels with arched top corners

Construction: Two-piece dresser (the glazed top sits on the base); deep flared cornice; thick top with a rounded front edge; dovetailed drawers; board back; molded plinth on turned bun feet

Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, including small cracks and a chip at the left end of the right drawer front, a rough patch of lifted, worn grain to the right of that drawer's knob, scratches and wear on the base top, crazing in the glaze of the white knobs, old glazing putty that is crumbling in places, a small old hole near the top of the center door stile, darkened wear around the upper door knob, and knots, nail holes and marks on the unfinished board back.
